Mama Medicine

Deborah Hanekamp, the healer known as Mama Medicine, is a trained yoga teacher, Reiki practitioner, and has studied Amazonian shamanism in Peru, yet she identifies as all and none of the traditions. Instead, the 34-year-old mother and seeress who is making a name for herself in the healing world has forged her own unique modality, realizing that her destiny as a healer was simply “following the path to me.”

This level of faith within the self and knowingness that all you need is inside you is a pillar of Mama Medicine’s healing. Her sessions, called “Medicine Readings,” are designed to leave her clients with the tools they need to discover their own medicine and means to self-healing. Combined with her background in Amazonian shamanism and training in other various healing modalities, her sessions are described as a mixture of "ayahuasca ceremony without the ayahuasca" and a touch of alchemy.

“Traditionally, alchemy would be the process of transforming rougher metals into gold,” Mama Medicine states in regards to her process. What she means by alchemy, however, is not in helping people change themselves into gold, but in bringing awareness to the fact that they already are gold.

“Acknowledgment of that perfection is what turns you into gold,” Mama Medicine believes. Having forged her own sometimes trying path as a healer opening up her own business in New York at twenty-four, only to be introduced to the Amazonian shaman who would take her on an eight year Peruvian Amazonian Shamanism apprenticeship, she holds up a mirror for this truth.

You can find Mama Medicine giving heart opening wisdom and bringing an enlightened sense of fashion to Instagram on @mamamedicine, and in New York City, offering private, semi-private, and group Medicine Reading healing sessions.
