Having worked with and through her own battles with addiction, anxiety, depression and creative stuckness, Adriana has specific experience in the areas of sobriety, grief, finding one's true and authentic voice, sexual trauma, addiction, and growth through big life transitions and pain. Her teachings emphasize learning to navigate the subtle body and chakra system, to honor the wisdom within the sacred feminine, and to re-establish a deep connection with the natural world.

The Art of Loving You: An Interview with Adriana Rizzolo

SOUNDCLOUD | TRANSCRIPT

This interview is part our exploration into theme of Addiction. Check back all August and September for more stories on the theme.

It has long been understood that internal suffering is what helps us cultivate compassion for others. This fact is what makes Adriana Rizzolo such a present and compassionate Bhakti yoga and meditation teacher, kirtan leader, and healing circle facilitator. By facing and owning her own struggles with addiction, anxiety, depression, and grief, Adriana Rizzolo has created an expansive space for others to face and acknowledge their own.

Adriana’s path to sobriety began as a “miracle.” In India for a yoga teacher training, an energetic shift occurred in her that forced her out of the compulsive avoidant behaviors that she had spent many years perpetuating. Growing up in a family where addiction thrived and lived in secrecy, Adriana’s familiarity with the nature of addiction has allowed her to understand and help other people facing addiction and grief, whether it be in circle, her writing, or in the authentic conversations she has on her podcast, Soul Crush.

We interviewed Adriana to learn more about her perspective on how the sensitivity that is inherent in one who has experienced addiction can create a strong ally, her path to sobriety and authenticity, and how we can learn to hold space for others, and especially ourselves.
